Description
THE LAST GREAT Volkswagen GTi
Volkswagen up! GTi 2022 Tornado Red
The up! GTi is no mere city car. Volkswagen's engineers set out to honour a legacy and in doing so created something that will never be made again. This is the last great GTi built purely for the hell of it: light, fast, raw, and endlessly rewarding. It is known to be driven by Chris Evans petrolhead, broadcaster, and one of the most discerning car enthusiasts in Britain.
Widely regarded as a future classic (just search "up GTi future classic") this car is now out of production and will never be made again.
THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER.
The original 1976 Mk1 Golf GTi produced 110bhp and weighed around 810kg. This 2022 up! GTi produces 115bhp and tips the scales at just 929kg. Nearly identical power, a similarly featherweight kerb weight, and crucially seats that pay direct homage to the iconic tartan cloth of the original Golf GTi. This car completes the loop back to the legendary Mark 1 Golf GTi.
