Description
A very well-sorted and genuinely usable 1968 Mustang Fastback that has been restored and improved in the areas that matter.
The car presents exactly as a good fastback should, straight, clean and sitting correctly on Torque Thrust wheels.
At its core is a roller rocker Real Steel crate engine, 302ci V8 (330hp, fitted new 2019) paired with a Tremec TKO600 5 speed manual gearbox with an 8.8 rear axle with LSD.
Rack-and-pinion power steering, power assisted 4-pot front disc brakes and a fully reworked electrical system, taken together, this is a classic Mustang that retains the character of the original car but is significantly more usable in modern driving conditions. The car was imported from Florida and restored in the UK. It was a solid starting point and received a lot of upgrades during the restoration.
Bare metal resto (over 1000 photos available) and repainted in Highland Green with a black interior. The original 1968 front seats (available) were re-upholstered but have since been upgraded to 1969 Highback Mustang seats, re cushioned and upholstered in black leather. This is a subtle but lovely upgrade because they have headrests and provide better lateral support.
Upgraded tilt steering column.
The suspension and drive train was rebuilt throughout with new components including springs, control arms, bushes and fasteners. The front control arms are poly-bushed and the car sits with a stance that looks right without being overdone. Stainless steel hard break lines have been fitted throughout.
Fully rewired with a modern system using blade fuses and modern relays. It is still quite a simple electrical system, only now it is serviceable and not 50 years old. The whole car is Dynamatted for sound deadening and insulation and has a new style air-con system fitted which actually works way better than we though it would when it was installed.
The car retains desirable 1968 features such as bonnet-mounted indicator repeaters, a fold down rear seat and sequential LED rear lights. The restoration was fully documented with an extensive photographic record.
Recent service and MOT (expires March 2027)
This is best described as a very good driver quality, restored fastback. It is no longer a concourse car but is a well-sorted and honest example.
