The final iteration, done properly. By 2018, the L405 Range Rover had reached a point of quiet maturity. The final facelift brought with it a series of meaningful upgrades. Slimmer LED lighting, a revised front end, cleaner detailing and, inside, a more contemporary interface with improved infotainment and digital displays. It sharpened the car without disturbing its core identity. Familiar, but better resolved. Crucially, it also sits at the end of an era. The last Range Rover to be fitted with the 4.4-litre SDV8 - an engine that, in hindsight, feels like the definitive powerplant for a full-size Range Rover. Effortless, immensely torquey and proven in service, it delivers performance in the way these cars were always meant to: quietly, without strain, and with a deep reserve of power. Even when compared to the latest BMW-powered cars, it gives away very little in outright pace, yet offers more torque and a more relaxed, long-legged character. It is also widely regarded as one of JLR's most dependable modern engines - particularly when set against the 3.0-litre alternatives and later Ingenium units. On a longer run, 30mpg+ is entirely achievable, making it as usable as it is capable. In many respects, it stands as arguably the best all-round engine ever fitted to a full-fat. Finished in Carpathian Grey over Ebony hide, this example carries itself exactly as it should - further elevated by the addition of the SVO body styling. Subtle, but effective. A revised front bumper, more pronounced side vents and quad exhaust finishers give the car a sharper, more purposeful edge, while the contrasting black exterior details and 22-inch wheels complete the look. It's a configuration that enhances rather than overstates - exactly in keeping with the car's character. As an Autobiography, it comes with everything you would expect - and realistically, everything you would want. Sliding panoramic roof, fridge, heated, cooled and massage front seats, and heated rear seating, Meridian 1,280W sound, suede headlining and 360 cameras - along with all the usual Range Rover equipment.
