Description

"Probably the best Discovery Land Rover made" Many think the late-model Discovery 4 is the best vehicle Land Rover built in recent years, largely because the high-tech solutions the firm adopted actually made the vehicle more effective; they were specified by engineers, not marketeers. Background Unveiled in 2009, you probably won't be surprised to learn that the Discovery 4 replaced the Disco 3. It started life with a 2.7-litre engine, which was replaced in 2011 by the three-litre TDV6 and SDV6. An eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox became standard fitment in 2012, and a midlife refresh was unveiled in 2013. The facelift, which you see on this example, ushered in Land Rover's new design language. First seen on the 2010 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, it is rounder and softer than earlier models, while simultaneously bringing a more luxurious cabin and substantial mechanical improvements. This particular car was purchased 'Approved Used' from Matford Land Rover in Exeter in 2022. And has been maintained meticulously ever since - as evidenced by a selection of service bills shown in this ad. Cam belts and all four brakes have been replaced in the past year; plus the often temperamental Tailgate latch. The car, although currently requiring a clean, is professionally valeted every other month by Chamois Shine. With the possible exception of a Volvo 245 this is the best car I've ever owned; and my second LR Discovery 4, which I have now replaced with a third Disco 4 that has only covered 7,000 miles (visible in background). The Disco 4 does everything: seven seats; massive storage; flat bed right up to the front seats; comfortable; capable; bomb proof; and it will sit on the motorway all day at 70mph returning close to 30mpg. You can, as I have, take a trip to the local dump or scrub it up and attend a VIP event - it fits in anywhere and everywhere. At 107k miles it is not without it's faults but these are superficial: a scratch on the Driver's Side Front Alloy; and, a scratch on the rear passenger side door sill. Both blemishes are shown in the photos. I will be very sorry to say goodbye to this beloved car and can only hope it's like-for-like replacement proves to be just as good. It's a very safe purchase for anyone looking for the ultimate 'do it all' car.
