Description
The id.3 is a great car to drive, handling well and with the smooth, powerful acceleration that an electric car delivers.
This car, in VW's Manganese Grey, comes with factory-installed extras: it has VW's Andoya alloy wheels, which are in superb condition as can be seen in the photos. It also has a heat pump, designed to only use one third of the energy of the standard model to heat or cool the car. That means a longer range, especially in winter. It also has 2-Zone Climatronic control, allowing driver and passenger to set different temperatures.
With VW's app, the car can be set to cool, heat or charge remotely, ensuring that your car is defrosted and warm on cold days or pre-cooled in warm weather.
This car has been charged almost exclusively at home on a 7kW home charger, only rarely using public rapid chargers that can reduce battery life. Its 58kWh battery has been regularly checked and maintained at a VW Battery Competence Centre.
The id.3 only requires a service inspection every two years, with no mileage limit on servicing. It has been serviced every two years by a VW dealership, with its next service due in late November 2026.
The 58kWh battery has until November 2028 or until it reaches 100,000 miles, on its warranty.
The car has had one owner from new and has mainly been used for local motoring and a 150 miles round-trip every week or so. It has never let me down.
The car is fitted with Michelin CrossClimate 2 tyres, which have been great in all weathers, offering good grip and traction in the rain and giving confidence in cold conditions.
Although the car is the size of a Golf, its rear-wheel drive gives it a small turning circle so parking and getting about in the city are easy. Inside, it has the space of a bigger car like a Passat and the rear seats offer comfort for six-footers with good headroom and legroom.
The car has two USB-C power and data sockets in the front and two power sockets in the back. There is a smartphone wireless charging slot in the centre storage console. The id.3 connects via Bluetooth or cable through a smartphone to either Google Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
I've been paying 350 pounds a year to drive 16000 miles a year, saving around 2500 pounds a year in fuel, just by charging at home overnight.
You get a good idea of the car's condition from the photos. The interior was protected with DoDo Juice fabric protector from new and still looks great.
