Description
This is a 37 year old Defender. If you're looking for perfection, you're looking in the wrong place. It has all the usual Defender features such as noises, leaks and lack of speed. BUT, it also has fun in spades - I challenge you to drive this vehicle without a huge grin on your face.
It's served me well for around 15 years - I've repaired what needed repairing and fitted a few upgrades.
The good:
200TDI commercial engine
Bulkhead replaced five years ago.
Rock sliders and sump guard.
Winch.
It has just been serviced (engine oil, oil filter, diesel filter, air filter).
Gearbox and diff oils changed less than 2000 miles ago.
New A-Frame Ball Joint.
New battery.
Solar panel to trickle charge battery.
8 months MOT.
Starts first time every time.
Great fun to drive (did I mention that?).
Things you should be aware of:
The alternator belt is likely to need replacing sooner rather than later.
The winch cable is old and should probably be replaced if you want to rely on it.
The fuel gauge is temperamental (but it will come with at least 20l diesel)
The timing belt is around five years old.
