Description

One of the rarer and more intriguing variants of the classic Porsche G-Series 911. This is a UK-supplied 1986 Carrera 3.2 Supersport Cabriolet (M491 "Turbo-Look"), with just two owners from new and an exceptional, near-continuous history file spanning almost four decades, and over 50,000GBP of recent restoration work. Introduced in 1984, the Supersport combined the wide-body styling, uprated brakes and suspension of the 930 Turbo with the naturally aspirated 3.2 Carrera engine. The result is widely regarded as the best of both worlds: the visual drama and stance of the Turbo, paired with the usability, balance and reliability of the Carrera. Production numbers were limited, with around 75 examples supplied to the UK, of which approximately 37 were Cabriolets. This example was supplied new in June 1986 by Charles Follett Ltd of Berkeley Street, Mayfair. It retains its original factory order form and supplying dealer invoice, confirming specification, chassis number and its original registration, C929 BUL. Finished in Guards Red with full black leather and red piping, it presents in a classic and highly desirable colour combination. The car has had just two owners from new, both clearly enthusiastic custodians. Early servicing was carried out within the Porsche main dealer network, including Dutton-Forshaw Porsche, before continued maintenance by respected specialists such as Chris Turner Porsche, Carrera Sport, Paragon and JZM. The history file is extensive, including original documentation, decades of invoices, and MOT certificates dating back to 1990. Significant recent investment includes a full body restoration in 2018 by Pluckley Coachworks using genuine Porsche panels, totalling over 30,000GBP. In 2020, the car benefitted from a top-end engine rebuild and a full 915 gearbox rebuild by Porsche specialist R Winder, with combined expenditure exceeding 20,000GBP. Today, this Supersport represents a rare opportunity to acquire a highly original, exceptionally well-documented example of one of the most desirable and increasingly appreciated variants of the air-cooled 911.
