If you’re looking at one of these, you’ll know they sit in a bit of a sweet spot - Its the sensible and comfortable version of the GTI. You get the best of both: - 1.4 TSI + electric motor (~201bhp) - Paired with VW's rapid automatic DSG gearbox - Quick when you want it, silent when you don’t - Ability to run on electric mode for 20+ miles In electric and hybrid modes, it's calm, quiet and efficient, but push the GTE button and it properly wakes up. Everything tightens up, the steering becomes heavy, the engine and electric motor burst into life. The whole sound and feel of the car changes and sometimes I think the sole purpose of the GTE button is to remind you that this car is still a mighty hot hatch.
