Description
2003/53 Land Rover Defender 90 TD5 G4 Limited Edition – Borrego Yellow – Ultra Rare
For those who know, this is one of the special ones.
Genuine G4 Limited Edition Defender 90, built by Land Rover to support the 2003 G4 Challenge. Not a tribute, not a replica—this is the real thing.
The Numbers (and why it matters):
1 of just 100 Defender 90 G4 Limited Editions
Believed to be ~15 in Borrego Yellow
One of the rarest factory G4 specs you'll find
Most people associate G4 with Tangiers Orange—and rightly so, it made up the bulk of production (circa 70%). Java Black followed, Zambezi Silver after that… and then Borrego Yellow right at the bottom. Estimates suggest only around 12–15 of each model (Defender & Discovery) were ever finished in this colour.
If you know G4s, you'll know how seldom these come up—especially genuine yellow cars.
Market Differences / Proper G4 Detail:
European-market G4s had their own quirks:
France cars: Tangiers Orange & Java Black
Germany cars: Tangiers Orange & Borrego Yellow
And crucially, unlike most of the actual Challenge vehicles (which were largely petrol), the Euro editions got the 2.5 TD5—arguably the engine you actually want in one of these.
Spec – As It Should Be:
Factory G4 Limited Edition
Original Black Mogul seat trim (G4-only interior detail)
Correct G4 roof rails (slightly thicker than standard)
6 seats
133k miles
13 service stamps
Land Rover's whole point with the G4 Editions was to prove the vehicles were "challenge-ready" straight out of the factory—so unlike many special editions, they didn't overload them with gimmicks. The differences are subtle, but to the right buyer, they're everything.
Why This One Stands Out:
Finding a genuine G4 is one thing. Finding a Defender 90 is harder. Finding one in Borrego Yellow with provenance and history is on another level.
