This was our first move into electric, having previously run dieselMercedes-Benzvehicles, so it's fair to say we made the switch with a degree of curiosity and caution. Since then, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. We now own three EVs, and through that journey I've developed a strong understanding of electric vehicle ownership. From the outset, choosing Tesla proved to be the right decision, the technology is intuitive, the driving experience is excellent, and the charging infrastructure is simply the most reliable and stress free available. One of the biggest advantages has been the running costs. Using the Octopus Energy smart tariff, we are currently charging at just 5.2p per kWh, which works out at approximately1.3p per mile. When compared to a typical petrol or diesel vehicle at around 15-20p per mile, the savings are substantial and quickly add up. There's also an additional benefit that many people overlook: the cheap overnight tariff applies to the whole house, not just the car. This means any electricity used during those hoursheating, hot water, appliancesis also at the lower rate, which can result in significant overall household savings. Our experience with EVs has also given us confidence in higher mileage vehicles. Our other two electric cars were purchased with around 100,000 miles, based on the understanding that premium manufacturers have very sophisticated battery management systems. In reality, most battery degradation occurs early in the car's life (typically around 5-8% in the first year), after which it stabilises significantly. As more higher mileage EVs enter the market, some buyers remain cautious about battery health, which has an impact on pricing which creates opportunity to own a premium vehicle at a low price!
