Description

If you have never had the privilege of driving and MX-5 until now, you are doing yourself a disservice. They are as good as journalists, car influencers and people at cars and coffee meetups tell you. With a perfect balance, bolt action-like gear change and an engine which rewards momentum, it is a car which wants to - and will - make you smile over and over again. This is my 2001 Mk 2.5 (NB 2.5) with the more powerful 1.8 engine with variable valve timing. Note that this is not the Sport or any special edition so it does not have the factory LSD. This car is completely stock, with all equipment still bolted on the car as it came out of the factory in Hiroshima 25 years ago. This example is a true blank canvas, for you to add your own touch of keep it as is. There is full service history with this example, with invoices for the work stretching from 2005 to 2025. The previous - and original - owner should be credited here for being so meticulous when it came to maintaining and preserving documents. The sills have been repaired in the past, but the arches are original steel. Under my ownership, it has had a service with transmission oil change, four new tyres and new brake discs on the front. It even comes with the model year brochure for the UK market. It passed its most recent MOT with advisories for slight rust on the front suspension, and work was done to replace the steering rack and fix an exhaust leak. Rust has not been listed as an advisory, but from the photos you can see three arches are starting to bubble and rust is appearing slightly on the driver's side sill. The car does have a noisy auxiliary belt on cold start but quietens down when up to temperature. Life has meant I sadly do not have the time to fully appreciate driving this car, and to take it on the adventures it deserves - as it has a lot more left in it to go on.
