Description

This is simply an astonishing car. The baby of the AudiSport 'S' range, this car is far from a pimped-up regular A1. Almost entirely redesigned under the skin to accommodate the quattro four-wheel drive system, this car has one of the most powerful variants of the EA888 2-litre turbo engine widely seen across the Audi/VAG/Seat group. My car is one of just two-and-a-half-thousand RHD S1s sold in the UK, finished in the relatively rare Vegas Yellow colour scheme with black part-leather interior. It was supplied new by Audi Newbury, and has a very detailed service history. Its mileage stands at just 65,900 - still relatively low for an 9-year-old car. In my ownership, all four corners have been treated to Brembo brake discs and pads, and then fitted with premium Bridgestone Potenza tyres which the car really likes and match well with the mildy uprated and slightly lowered suspension ( H & R german performance products fitted by a previous owner). This tyre+suspension combination provides astonishing grip on the 'twisties', especially in 'dynamic' driving mode selected on the adaptive suspension. By removal of the black 'wrap' that had been applied by a previous owner to the roof, door mirror caps and the spoiler - visible in some of the photos - my car has recently been restored to the original, complete Vegas Yellow colour scheme which includes silver mirror cappings, gloss black roof-line trim and black wheels. Mechanically it has no known faults, with the water pump and thermostat housing recently replaced, costing nearly a grand. This is a well documented and common issue with this version of the 2.0 litre VAG group motor in the S1. If you find a car with 60k on the clock and this work isn't evidenced, then expect to be paying for it soon. The early signs were the initially occasional, but latterly more frequently flashing low coolant level warning light indicating time to get the work done. OEM parts were used of course which are now known to provide a permanent fix to this fault as the replacement housing is made from a different, more robust material. Check the car's MoT history but you will find that it passed last November with no advisories, nor any for the two MoTs previous to that. Surely an indication of a car that has been well cared-for. This is a fantastic car - a pocket rocket for sure, and likely to become a desirable and collectable modern hot-hatch in due course. I'll be very sad to see it go :-(
