Lovely E39 520 SE saloon, reluctantly selling. Originally a demonstrator with Sewell BMW, Letchworth, this X reg classic has now completed just 67809 miles. Having been kept in a garage all its previous life (I have kept it under an all season cover), it is as "good as new" underneath according to my mechanic. A full service history further shows that this car has been extremely well looked after. The smooth and reliable 6 cylinder 2.2 petrol engine with automatic gearbox delivers a comfortable and refined driving experience. It drives superbly well. This is a modern classic, frequently rated as the best 5 series of all time - due to its design, engineering, styling and excellent build quality. The demo car had 14000 miles when sold in Sept 2001. It had reached nearly 61000 by Nov 2012. It was then barely used, covering just 2500 miles in 13 years, until I bought it in 2025 at just over 63500 miles. Its colour combination of Topaz Blue paintwork and sand beige leather interior is tasteful and classy. As with any 26 year old car, it needs some TLC. Since owning it I have replaced the gearbox oil cooler, re-gassed the a/c and replaced the battery. I have not bothered to fix the following as they don't bother me at all: one defective parking sensor (a simple fix I understand), a couple of pixels no longer working on the radio display, broken passenger side retractable cup holder (I imagine fairly easy to replace).
