Description
We bought this Jaguar 420 from a car auction purely because it made us laugh… and honestly, we’ve had an amazing time with it ever since. It’s one of those cars that draws attention absolutely everywhere it goes. People wave, smile, ask questions at petrol stations, and generally seem far happier once they’ve seen it rumbling past.
Now let’s be honest — this isn’t a concours example. The bodywork appears to be “50 Shades of Grey” depending on the weather, lighting, and possibly your mood. But somehow… it works. It has proper old-school charm.
The odometer currently shows 20,624 miles, although we have absolutely no idea if that’s correct, and we’re certainly not brave enough to guarantee it. What we do know is that it starts, runs, drives, and sounds fantastic.
At some point in its life, someone decided standard fuel costs were offensive and fitted LPG conversion, meaning this Jaguar has TWO fuel fillers — one for petrol and one for LPG. Nothing says “luxury motoring” quite like choosing your fuel source like a fighter jet pilot.
It also appears to have electronic fuel injection fitted, suggesting the engine may not be original factory specification. Again… this only adds to the story.
As it’s a 1986 vehicle, we believe it is MOT exempt, although buyers should make their own checks and satisfy themselves accordingly.
This is not a perfect car. It is not subtle. It is not sensible. But if you want something with character that makes modern cars feel completely soulless, this thing is fantastic fun.
