Description

Current owner purchased the car approximately 14 years ago at around 52,000 miles. The car is largely original and comes with extensive history throughout its life, including a substantial folder of paperwork covering maintenance, servicing and repairs. Features include 17" Wolf Race alloy wheels with good tyres all round, original 15" wheels, Mongoose stainless exhaust muffler, T-bar shades/covers, original toolkit, 6-disc CD changer and two keys. Major recent maintenance includes replacement T-bar seals (2022), inner and outer sill repairs on both sides (2022), replacement lower-mileage Celica donor engine fitted by respected MR2 specialist JPF near Droitwich (2023), plus clutch, timing belt and oil pump replacement with engine and gearbox removed by JPF (2021). In 2025 the front suspension was comprehensively refreshed with polyurethane bushes and the fuel sender hard line was replaced. Recently passed MOT with only minor advisories and tested until May 2027. Mechanically the car drives very well for its age and mileage. The engine starts easily, pulls strongly and does not smoke or consume oil. Gear selection is smooth, heater controls operate correctly and it remains an enjoyable and usable modern classic. Points to note: distributor has a small oil leak which will eventually require attention but does not affect operation. T-top seals have greatly improved weather sealing although a very small amount of water ingress can still occur during particularly heavy rain. Cosmetically the car presents well overall but is now 30 years old and shows expected signs of age, including stone chips, scratches and minor blemishes. Following replacement of the T-bar seals, corrosion was discovered beneath the windscreen frame trim area. This was treated and repainted at home, although the finish could benefit from further cosmetic attention. As with many MR2s of this age, some corrosion is beginning to appear in areas such as the wheel arches, front wings and a few other age-related spots. Nothing significant structurally, reflected by the recent MOT result. Other cosmetic points include wear to the driver's seat bolster and alloy wheels that could benefit from refurbishment depending on buyer preference. Overall, a very honest, mechanically well-sorted Toyota MR2 SW20 that has clearly been cared for throughout long-term ownership. Extensive history, substantial recent expenditure and specialist maintenance make this an increasingly rare and usable modern classic.
