In 2005, Lotus announced it would be launching the first track-ready versions of the S2 Exige in the 190 and Cup 240. Picked from the regular production line and hand built by the Motorsport Division, the 240 was the first model to be fitted with a supercharger and the huge standard specification included traction control, twin oil coolers, Accusump system, Torsen LSD, heavy duty clutch, Ohlins adjustable dampers, AP Racing brakes and lightweight wheels. The model also came available in 'Road' or 'Race' specification, which was denoted by the no-cost options of an FIA approved six-point roll cage, mechanical ignition kill switch (Internal and external) as well as electrical fire extinguisher system (internal and external). Air conditioning, was not an option in Race mode according to Lotus sales literature of the time.
