Description

The car has done some track days in past years, but I have now retired from such days so have put the car onto a new set of original Lotus-spec road suspension. This gives the original compliant ride, which is much better suited to today's roads, but still has excellent grip, ride and handling. Suspension: The car is currently fitted with newly refurbished Nitron single-way adjustable dampers and new standard rate springs. The dampers are tuned for optimum road performance and can be adjusted by a simple thumb-wheel adjustment on each damper. The car comes with a set of Eibach lowered, stiffer springs for track use, if required. The camber is set to standard book settings (achieved by adding shims) and can be increased to track settings by simply removing some shims. The sale includes a new set of spare Team Dynamics alloy wheels. The tyres are part-worn (3-4mm ) Yokohama AD08R's on the front and AD08RS's on the rear. The 2.3 litre Duratec engine was installed professionally by Steve Williams Sportscars in Maidenhead, and is running perfectly. The engine was brand new when fitted and is the chain-driven unit fitted by Caterham to new Sevens. The driveshafts have been uprated to the Eliseparts 400bhp competition items, after the standard ones suffered with CV joint wear. The engine is mated to the original K-series Rover gearbox but with the close ratios of the 135R. The gearbox has been rebuilt by ES Motorsport and is easily capable of taking the torque because it was designed for the KV6 engines at Rover. The clutch is an AP Racing assembly and is light to use. It is not a paddle clutch, but a conventional "full circle" of friction plate. The car has done 69,000 miles but the engine has only done 39,000 miles from new. Steve Williams does not modify the engine internally and achieves the power through new throttle bodies (Webcon), a 4-branch exhaust, a K&N induction system and ECU remapping. The 2.3L unit therefore gives excellent torque from low revs and just pulls steadily harder to the red line of 7,000rpm, to which it is rev limited. 0-60 is circa 4 seconds. The body panels are perfect, apart from one small (10 x 10mm) stone chip underneath the rear clam, behind one rear wheel. This is only visible from underneath the car. The interior is standard 135R with blue alcantara panels on the doors and instrument binnacle. The seats are Probax (a common upgrade giving better support) in black cloth. There are a few miscellaneous spares as part of the sale.
