Description
Selling my 1988 Mk1 MR2 after recommissioning it following around 19 years in dry garage storage, having been off the road since 2006.
Since buying it, the car has had a replacement alternator, thermostat, cooling system work, new brake discs and pads, along with further attention to the braking system.
The car now has a fresh MOT, which I believe should be the last one it requires before becoming eligible for historic vehicle status next year, subject to the usual requirements.
To address the MOT advisories, the number plate light has since been replaced so both are now working. There is an exhaust leak from the flexi which I haven't got around to replacing yet. The MOT also notes some corrosion, which is fairly common on Mk1 MR2s and isn't particularly serious, but there are areas that would benefit from some attention. The starter motor can also occasionally be a little temperamental, so this may need some attention in the future.
The car starts, runs and drives well and remains a fairly original example for its age.
It's currently fitted with JR10 alloy wheels with brand-new Toyo Proxes TR1 tyres all round. The original Toyota teardrop alloy wheels are also included with the sale.
The car is also fitted with a double-DIN Apple CarPlay head unit, giving it Bluetooth, music and navigation functionality while still keeping the rest of the car relatively original.
The bodywork and interior present well considering its age and the amount of time it spent in storage, although naturally there are age-related marks and imperfections.
I've taken the MR2 to a number of car shows during my ownership and it always gets plenty of attention. It's a really enjoyable car to own and one that people are always interested to see.
With a bit of TLC in a few areas, I think this could become a very good example of a Mk1 MR2. It's already a presentable and usable car, with plenty of potential for someone who wants to put some additional time and money into it.
Selling simply because I have other cars and projects that need my attention.
