For sale is my much cherished 1989 MK2 Scirocco GTX which has been the subject of a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration over the past three years as my retirement project and now looks and drives beautifully. These cars are getting very rare and from the 'How Many are Left' website I believe this is the only 1989 example now still on the road. Mechanically similar to the 1800cc Mark 1 Golf GTI, so many parts are still available. With a recorded 84k miles, finished in Sapphire Blue metallic paint, original alloys and with a lovely, almost unmarked interior the car is ready to continue on its journey with its next owner. Over 4k spent in parts and materials during the refurbishment which included dealing properly with the few isolated areas of rust, each system has been thoroughly renewed and the work fully documented. Far too many parts to list here, but includes the following as an example: New fuel tank, fuel filler neck, fuel lines, filters, injectors, main fuel pump, pressure regulator, auxiliary fuel tank etc. New brakes all round including hard and soft lines, drums and calipers. Rebuilt suspension, including all new front and rear bushes, front wishbones, wheel bearings, rebuilt rear torsion suspension, Bilstein gas shocks all round with new coil springs, CV joints etc. New clutch, gearbox oil seals, gear linkage bushes, crankshaft oil seal, timing belt and tensioner, hydraulic tappets (one was a bit noisy when cold), water pump, all four engine mounts, exhaust rear box etc. The Bosch K-Jetronic DX engine runs sweetly and the car is real a joy to drive. As you can see from the photos, the bodywork is beautifully straight, with mostly original paint, undamaged bumpers and body moulding skirts. A few small areas of sun affected lacquer, and crazing of the black decals. The car isn't yet concourse, but with some more cosmetic TLC this could be its next stage. Extras fitted are, electric windows and remote control central locking. Comes with original Blaupunkt radio cassette fitted and two keys. Extensive file of history, including every MOT certificate.
