This is a heavy heart sale. One I will regret for years and probably talk about to anyone who will listen for decades. But sometimes you have to do what needs to be done. I just hope she goes to another petrol head. Someone who understands the value of things, not simply the price. The clunk when that big Mercedes door shuts. The V8 roar when she starts. First time, every time. Then that little piece of theatre as she rises onto all fours on the air suspension. Select drive and off she goes, with that wonderful combination of V8 muscle, poise and old school Mercedes engineering. She's a driver's car. A user's car. Not a show pony. Never restored, gloriously imperfect and full of charm, character and patina. Exactly how I like my old cars. I've been her custodian for three years. Her last service with Mercedes Club recommended W108/W109 specialist Dave Meads. The previous custodian clearly loved her too, and there's a wallet full of receipts and history. If your first concern is ticking boxes, she probably isn't for you. But if you're a petrol head who looks back at an old car after parking it, we'll probably get along.
