Description
Rarely does an early Mk1 Golf GTI of this caliber come to market. As one of the coveted early "SwallowTail" models—distinguished by its unique rear panel design and pressed tail—this 1979 icon represents the absolute genesis of the hot hatch phenomenon.
Purchased by the current owner in 2018, this car has undergone an uncompromising, no-expense-spared, two year sympathetic restoration to bring it back to a standard better than the day it left the factory. Since completion, it has been stored exclusively in a heated showroom, covering a mere 70 dry stored miles.
Every single nut, bolt, and panel has been meticulously addressed. The comprehensive rebuild includes:
-Stripped entirely back to bare metal with all glass removed. Expert metalwork was carried out where required, followed by a full professional primer and high-gloss respray of the body and underside.
-Fully serviced featuring a fresh top-end rebuild. Fitted with brand-new brakes, suspension components, fuel tank, and fuel lines.
-Original factory wheels (including the spare) have been professionally refurbished to concourse condition.
-Beautifully re-trimmed interior complemented by brand-new, high-quality carpets. A period-correct Blaupunkt stereo has been installed to blend classic aesthetics with modern audio clarity.
This was an extensive, deeply passionate project built at great financial cost—and the results speak for themselves. This is undoubtedly one of the finest early Mk1 Golf GTIs in the country.
Comes with a comprehensive photographic catalogue documenting every single stage of the recommissioning process.
