We waited for the McLaren we would genuinely buy ourselves. This is it. Storm Grey is sensational on the 570S, dark and almost graphite in softer light before the metallic comes alive across the front wings, doors and huge rear haunches. Dark Palladium exterior detailing, 5 Twin-Spoke Lightweight Stealth wheels, red carbon-ceramic calipers and Rocket Red badging finish a specification that looks expensive rather than overdone. Factory highlights include Sports Exhaust with Stealth finishers, Nose Lift, carbon-ceramic brakes, heated electric memory seats, Carbon Fibre Interior Components, Jet Black Nappa Sport leather, Carbon Black Alcantara headlining, Apex Red stitching, rear camera and front and rear parking sensors. Driving it is what sold me. You sit low inside the carbon structure and the hydraulic steering is light, delicate and beautifully accurate. Then the road opens, the twin-turbo V8 wakes up behind you, the gearbox fires through another ratio and with the roof down and Sports Exhaust open the whole car comes alive. It is properly fast, but the steering, sound and way it makes an ordinary journey feel special are what stay with you. Then there is the history. This car benefits from full McLaren servicing and significant recent manufacturer work to the expensive areas knowledgeable buyers investigate, including the cam-phaser and timing system with associated chains, guides and tensioners. The known door-hinge concern has also been addressed through McLaren, together with manufacturer attention to the underside. That matters more to us than chasing the lowest mileage. The condition backs the history up beautifully. Storm Grey retains superb depth, the interior remains crisp and the complete car feels tight, cohesive and properly cared for.
