This is Danny de Vito, an exceptional Vito camper; in great condition. But with its conversion to camper not quite completed, In 2019 I searched around for the ideal vehicle to convert to a camper. My tick boxes were: 1. Small enough to double as a car, big enough to camp in comfortably, 2.Petrol not diesel because we cant stand the stink, and anyway converting to LPG was a possibility. 3.A top of the range minibus, not a van, to get proper windows and decent suspension, trim, carpeting & etc. 4. Good width, for a proper bed. 5. Durable top brand. I rejected VW's, as too narrow for a decent double bed, and I settled on Vitos. I looked at lots of them, but many were rust buckets. I learned that they were built from different batches of steel; some were awful, others OK. I found this one, which was sound; but to be 100% sure it would last I took it to Vito Experts in Northampton, who did an amazing full classic car restoration and engine overhaul, added roofbars, and changed the roof and wing mirror colour to silver. She does look pretty good. We then built a kitchen /wardrobe unit across the back with fridge, sink unit and hob. We added rotating front seats, and a brilliant fold-away king-size double bed. The rear bench seats slide out on telescopic runners to combine with rotated front seats to make a bed about 2m long x 1.6 wide. Its cushions are foam wrapped in dacron and are upholstered in blue tweed. The bed is wonderfully comfortable. I think you should be as comfy on holiday as at home. The sink and hob and kitchen worktop can be accessed from inside the van, or from behind it with the tailgate up; the intention being to add a tailgate tent. Danny has just gone through her MOT, the only advisories being for tyres which are ok, but a bit tired. Mechanically there are no apparent problems. She drives very smoothly with power there if needed. Towbar. 5 speed manual gearbox. The radio/cd : new, but its elec aerial is not coming up. Bodywork: a couple of bumper scuffs. Sink, hob & fridge: brand new. To complete the conversion a new owner could: 1. Complete cabinets with draw front, fridge cut out , and cut out to make cpd door. 2.Hook up tap to water tanks. 3.Install leisure battery and attendant elec for fridge etc. 4.Install curtains. 5.Install ply cover panels to front and back of rear seats. We are very reluctantly selling now. Our circumstances have changed and we are unlikely to use Danny as we had hoped to. Our loss, someone's gain!
