This 1985 Mercedes 280 SL is in the best colour combination of Signal Red combined with a black interior, the car is upholstered in the stylish and hard wearing MB Tex. The seats are comfortable and in very good condition with no tears, holes, signs of wear or staining. The carpets are clean and show no visible signs of wear. Sitting in the car takes you right back to the 1970s and 80s with the large, 'signature' Mercedes steering wheel, a bonnet that goes on forever and the period Blaupunkt radio/cassette, I'll even throw in my Tom Jones cassette! The bodywork and chrome are in good condition for the car's forty one years. There is some micro blistering to the paintwork on a small area of the bonnet and slight pitting to some of the chrome work, none of which detract from the overall sparkling presentation of the vehicle. The engine bay is very presentable and there is no sign of corrosion around the all important bulkhead, which I understand is a common fault with this series. The car has been registered as 'Historic' so no vehicle excise to pay and although it is now MOT exempt, the car was recently serviced and MOTd, with the advisory having been rectified. The odometer has very recently stopped working, I suspect it needs a new cable but I haven't had time to investigate. A large history file accompanies the vehicle and this gives an insight into the service record over the years. The Merc. is great to drive with the top down, either on a sunny summer's afternoon or a brisk winter's day. The soft top is a little tatty and really needs refurbishing or replacing, that said when I have been caught out in the rain it still does its job and keeps the interior dry. The car will come with a Pagoda hard top which is in good condition and I will include my garage stand and wind deflector. All in all this is a real head turning, iconic,smart motor which is being sold for not a lot of money.
