Bought this 1981 Golf 1.6 gti in 2022 & in 2023 the faulty k jet engine was replaced with a scirocco 1.8 carb engine with a 5 speed gearbox both fully serviced. As well as replacing the engine & gearbox a new cam belt, spark plugs , leads, rear disc brakes , hand brake cables , wheel bearings ,carburetor set up & rejet. All the mechancal work was carried out professionally in East Kilbride. It has 2 x keys ,V5 in my name , new battery , shock absorbers , fuel neck filler pipe & fuel cap etc Spares including 2 x litres Mars Red paint ,1 x MCF Harness dated end of 2027 & at least 2 x older Raceland harnesses & some fixings but floor runners are there so standard VW seats & seatbelts can be fitted , spare fuel filter , new audi drivers recessed door handle , spare speedometer cluster (not sure if this is the original or from the Scirocco) This was only ever a great hobby & Sunday car for me, it runs & drives very well. I only stopped using it in January as issues with electrics started & the standard exhaust rear section broke, I fitted the twin outlet system & that came with the car temporarily to keep the noise down . It has an excellent full BBS body kit which would look amazing when fully prepped & painted , it also has a Zender rubber hatch spoiler fitted. Previous owner had converted the door handles to recessed Audi ones & the drivers one is supplied. Always jacked up on sills/ lifting points except front nearside front sill which is worn. Electrically the lights & indicators need sorting / connecting, wiper works occasionally, fan needs checked , speedo cluster connections as above , it may just need connected to reinstate fuel level & temp gauge etc ,no horn. I always ran with E5 fuel , petrol may need replaced but after 8 months it started up no problem with just the choke. Bricks only at the rear wheels as it sat with the handbrake off. It has a stunning welded in roll cage & 14 inch alloys, tyres will need replaced. After 10 minutes or so the thermostat opens circulating the coolant. The car is 45 years old now , covered & primed in grey , overall the bodywork is very good. As you would expect with a car of this age there are areas that will require attention but overall its an excellent running project needing mostly electrical repairs /reconnecions. I need my garage space so its reluctantly time to move on. It will need to be transported as its not roadworthy until the electrical work is completed. Bank transfer only. Thanks
