Description
Absolutely stunning iconic Mk2 golf GTI
A classic Mk2 GTI with a very modern twist
There are plenty of ways to modify a Mk2 Golf GTI, but few are as effective or as entertaining as combining the lightweight simplicity of Volkswagen's iconic hatchback with the performance of the 1.8T 20-valve turbo engine.
G20 VTV takes that philosophy considerably further.
Originally a Mk2 Golf GTI 8V the car has been transformed with an Audi S3 8L AMK 1.8T 20V engine, a factory K04 turbocharger, a carefully developed transmission, a full 3-inch Trackslag exhaust system and a bespoke Badger 5 engine calibration.
The result is a car that retains the character, size and relatively low weight of a classic Golf while possessing performance that would have been almost unimaginable when the Mk2 first appeared.
The heart of the car Audi S3 AMK 1.8T 20V
At the centre is the AMK 1.8T 20-valve engine originally used in the Audi S3 8L.
Unlike many of the more common 1.8T engines found in Volkswagen and Audi models, the AMK was equipped from the factory with a BorgWarner/KKK K04 turbocharger. The K04 architecture gave the engine considerably more performance potential than the K03-equipped versions of the 1.8T.
The AMK was originally rated at approximately 210 bhp in S3 specification. In the Mk2, however, it is no longer working with the restrictive exhaust and heavier chassis of its donor car.
The engine conversion was originally completed in 2017, before the engine itself underwent a comprehensive rebuild in 2020.
