Description

The last two owners have invested considerable time, effort and money to ensure that this series III V12 is capable of long distance touring and reliable enough to be able to undertake memorable road trips. This example has travelled around Europe without suffering any significant problems and during this last very hot summer was able to make a trips to Brooklands and Goodwood without incident. The vendor added new wire wheels and whilst the purists will say this is a travesty I reaaly think they set the car off perfectly. Apart from the wheels the car is very much an original example - the heritage certificate records the chassis and engine numbers as originals - although changes to the final drive ratio, the fitting of a thermostatic fan and electronic ignition ensure that she starts frst time and can cope with whatever the English weather delivers. The 'face off' Alpine radio offers CD play as well as MP3 connectivity. An automatic retracting electric aerial enables you to use a car wash with impunity. Unlike many modern cars the 2 + 2 has room for a full size rim and tyre in the boot and still offers sufficient space for a couple of suitcases. Owning one of these iconic British sportscars is surprisingly inexpensive - with no road tax payable, no requirement for an MOT and classic car insurance at well under £200 per year ( subject to age, driving history and miles covered). Spares are readily available from a number of specialist suppliers and whilst some parts can be pricy you will not get any nasty shocks if somethings fails - these naturally aspirated beasts do not rely on computer wizardry to keep them going in a straight line and you dont have to take the engine out to change the starter motor or replace a CAT or a lamda sensor (As they were not fitted in the first place !) I have cherished my period of ownership but it is now time to pass on the baton to a younger person to enjoy and ensure that future generations can smell a vintage leather interior and listen to the throaty roar of the 5.3L V12 coming from its fantail quad exhaust. Rather more exciting than a spinning armature.... Enjoy !
