Description
Very late-build Ford Escort RS Cosworth, manufactured October 1995 and first registered 31 January 1996. Approximately 103,436 miles, MOT to August 2027 and only 3 former keepers.
I bought the car in September 2022 as a largely completed restoration. The previous owner was a professional paint sprayer and had carried out a substantial restoration, including a full repaint and removal/rebuild of the engine and drivetrain.
The engine rebuild was completed in 2019 at approximately 99,500 miles. I was not the owner when the work was carried out, but there is an extensive photographic record together with supporting invoices, including new pistons and rings, Mahle Motorsport big-end bearings, camshaft bearings, timing belt and tensioner. The turbo was professionally rebuilt by Midland Turbos in 2018 and a new clutch fitted in 2020.
The car has covered only around 3,900 miles since the restoration and engine rebuild.
During my ownership I have worked through a number of smaller mechanical and electrical jobs, including engine-bay sensors, cooling-fan relays and wiring repairs, brake discs, refurbished calipers, wheel bearings, track-rod ends and normal servicing with fresh oil, filters and coolant.
Mechanically it remains close to standard, retaining the original engine and turbo specification. Modifications are limited mainly to a stainless-steel exhaust, 18-inch versions of the original Escort Cosworth wheel design and Graham Goode Racing uprated standard-height springs which I believe make the car a little too high thus the previous Spax springs are included now powder coated.
The black leather interior presents very well and the underside is extremely clean, with recent ramp photographs available. There is no known structural corrosion.
I would not describe it as concours and have priced it accordingly. It has a few minor age-related imperfections, including a small mark on the driver's door and tailgate, a small crack in the plastic windscreen scuttle and a minor split in one door rubber.
The air-conditioning components were removed during the previous restoration and were never refitted. I have started collecting some of the parts should the next owner wish to reinstate it.
The car does not have a complete service history from new, but comes with a useful file of invoices, paperwork and extensive photographic evidence of the restoration and engine rebuild.
Supplied with two Toad Category 1 immobiliser fobs, spare keys and the original Ford red master key.
