Description

Registration No: KB51 EAJ Chassis No: WVWZZZ1EZ2K004521 MOT: July 2027 Only two former keepers, with current registered ownership since 2010 Modest mileage of just 100,000 miles from new Desirable Avantgarde specification, including leather interior upholstery Supplied with a history file As the successor to the long-running Volkswagen Golf Mk. I Karmann Cabriolet (Wolfsburg having decided against the Mk. II as a basis for a soft-top), the Mk. III Golf version was burdened with expectation. Although not as crisply styled as the earlier Giorgio Giugiaro-penned creation, the newcomer did have the advantage of being based on the 1992 European Car of the Year. A thoroughly modern design, its high-strength two-door monocoque bodyshell featured an integral roll-over hoop, and driver's and passenger's airbags. Protected from the elements by a six-layer quick-release hood, the four-seater cabin was suitably cosseting, while drivers had the advantage of both power-assisted steering (complete with an adjustable column) and ABS brakes. Available in S, SE, Avantgarde, and Colour Concept trim levels and with a choice of 1.6 (100bhp), 1.8 (75/90bhp), or two-litre (115bhp) engines, the model enjoyed a seven-year production run between 1994 and 2001 (though later incarnations wore a Mk. IV visage). A decently quick car in two-litre formcontemporary road tests spoke of 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds and 119mphfew would bet against the Mk. III Cabriolet going the way of its Mk. I predecessor and becoming a classic. A lovely car for our long, hot summers, this two-litre Mk. III Golf Avantgarde convertible is now quite a rare beast. It is also impressively well preserved, having had just two former keepers up to 2010, since when it has been in very sympathetic single ownership. It is a point of some interest that the owner from 2004 to 2010 was Eurostar International Ltd. It has covered just under 101,000 miles, which is very modest for a workhorse like the Golf, and these engines can easily go on for twice that distance before they require any major attention. This example was supplied new through Citygate Colindale of London, and as an Avantgarde model it features the leather interior. Its specification includes other desirable options, such as ABS, a leather-trimmed sports steering wheel, alloy wheels, power windows and eight speakers. It was in regular use until 2016, when it had its latest MOT at 100,980 miles. Despite passing with no advisories.
