Description
Kia Soul EV "Buzz"
Reliable, Low-Mileage First EV - Only £20 a Year Road Tax
Meet Buzz, our Kia Soul EV. We bought him as a proof-of-concept car to see whether electric would work for us, and he's been so good that we've now bought another EV to continue our electric journey.
Reliable all year round
Buzz has been dependable through summer and winter. The only blip has been a new 12V battery this year, which has now been replaced.
Low mileage, easy to live with
At 40,444 miles, he's covered very little for his age, though that may rise slightly as he's such fun for nipping to the shops. He's been used for the commute to work and local trips, and gives around 80 miles on a full charge. We think the battery has stayed healthy because of an easy charging life: he has only ever been charged at home on the standard 3-pin "granny" charger. Plug in when you get home, and he's full by the next morning.
Cheap to run
Still only £20 a year road tax
No fuel bills, just cheap home charging
Great history
Full Kia service history with 9 stamps
Supplied with a new MOT from the end of the month
Non-smoker car
Honest about the bodywork
The previous owner wasn't so careful, so Buzz has a few bumps and scrapes. It didn't bother me, as this was an experiment and it was the Kia brand that made me choose him as my first EV. I've priced him to allow for some bodywork if you want it done. Apart from the cosmetics, he's a brilliant car.
Roomy inside
At six foot tall, I found the headroom and space spot on, and much better than the other EVs I looked at.
Built to last
With battery repair specialists and salvage batteries becoming more common, these cars can keep going for years to come.
A perfect city car and an ideal first EV with great history. Buzz is ready for his next adventure!
