Description
We are delighted to offer this beautiful 1964 Jaguar Mk2, finished in Opalescent Dark Blue with a contrasting grey leather interior. This is a particularly special example, having been the subject of an extensive nut-and-bolt restoration, understood to have cost approximately £70,000 and taken almost nine years to complete.
The Jaguar Mk2 is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable British saloon cars ever produced. With its elegant proportions, beautiful chrome detailing and unmistakable front grille, it represents an era when Jaguar was producing some of the finest sporting saloons in the world. Even today, more than sixty years after this particular example left the factory, the Mk2 remains a wonderful car to admire.
What makes this particular Jaguar especially interesting is its history.
The car was registered in the Netherlands in 1990, and shortly afterwards underwent a comprehensive restoration that would eventually take almost nine years to complete. This was far more involved than a cosmetic refurbishment, with the bodywork, mechanical components and interior all receiving considerable attention.
The restoration was extensively photographed, providing an invaluable record of the work undertaken. The body was stripped and refinished in its beautiful metallic blue, with the underside also receiving attention. The 2.4-litre straight-six engine was completely dismantled and overhauled, together with the four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive.
Inside, the grey leather upholstery was refurbished, along with the woodwork and interior fittings. The chrome and exterior brightwork were also attended to, resulting in a car that presents beautifully throughout.
The restoration is understood to have cost approximately £70,000, a considerable sum of money, particularly when allowing for the period in which the work was undertaken. It is a wonderful example of the level of commitment that can go into preserving a classic car properly.
Following its restoration, the Jaguar continued to be carefully maintained and preserved. Its previous owner purchased the car through Historics in 2019 and subsequently kept it in a temperature-controlled garage, covering approximately 400 miles during his ownership.
This is something we particularly appreciate when sourcing classic vehicles. While beautiful paintwork and polished chrome certainly make an impression, it is the history behind a car that interests us most. Being able to look back through photographs of a restoration, understand the work that has been undertaken and establish how a vehicle has been cared for is far more reassuring than appearance alone.
The specification is also particularly appealing. The 2.4-litre straight-six engine is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive, making this a lovely car for relaxed country driving. The combination of the dark blue exterior, grey leather upholstery, traditional wooden dashboard and wire wheels gives the Jaguar an exceptionally elegant
