Description

Few cars put a smile on your face quite like this one. It looks fantastic, it's rare, increasingly collectable and, most importantly, it is an absolute riot to drive. With only around 470 examples produced worldwide, the Biposto was never just another special-edition Abarth. This was Abarth taking the little 500 platform and pushing it about as far as possible - stripping away anything unnecessary, reducing weight and adding some seriously focused hardware. From the outside there are subtle clues that this is something special, including carbon fibre mirror caps, front spoiler, rear diffuser and pillar trims, together with 18-inch alloy wheels and bright red Brembo brake calipers. Open the door and there is no mistaking what this car is about. Inside are carbon fibre door cards and dashboard trim, Sabelt racing harnesses, no rear seats and a substantial rear strut brace. There is no radio or air conditioning - weight saving and driving experience came first. The specification is equally serious, with adjustable Bilstein suspension, Akrapovic exhaust and further carbon fibre detailing including the air intake and engine cover. This particular car is an especially good example. Finished in matte grey, the highly original bodywork presents exceptionally well, while the interior remains in outstanding condition. The engine bay, underside and mechanical components also present superbly. The car has spent the majority of its life in the south of England, where the milder winters appear to have been particularly kind to it, and this is reflected in its condition today. It is supported by an extensive Abarth main-dealer service history, including recent cam belt replacement. The car has now been through the Roden Jones preparation process and received our usual thorough inspection. We have just carried out this year's service, adding a further stamp to the service book together with a detailed invoice for the work completed. As a Ferrari and performance-car specialist, we are fortunate enough to drive some exceptional machinery, but we can genuinely say this little Abarth is an absolute hoot. Light, firm, wonderfully direct and full of character, it feels exciting at sensible speeds and makes it clear that the Biposto was designed first and foremost to perform. Rare, distinctive, superbly presented and increasingly collectable, there is very little else quite like it.
