1986 (D) FORD SIERRA RS COSWORTH 3-DOOR – "BLUE STEEL" – TWIN-TURBO 2.9 V6 – 530+ BHP
West Coast Motors are incredibly proud to present what can only be described as a truly one-off Ford performance icon – this extensively developed 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3-door, better known as "Blue Steel", formerly owned and built by the late Fitzy of Top Boss Performance / Engineering.
This is far from a standard Sierra Cosworth and will undoubtedly divide opinion amongst the purists, but for anyone familiar with the Ford tuning scene of the 1990s and 2000s, this is an unmistakable and genuinely significant car. A multiple show-winning build, magazine-featured car and a hugely recognisable piece of modified Ford history, it represents an era of performance tuning that simply cannot be recreated today.
Originally a genuine 3-door Sierra RS Cosworth, the car has been completely transformed over the years into the machine you see today. At its heart is a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo conversion, running a pair of GT28 turbochargers and producing approximately 450 bhp on low boost and in excess of 530 bhp on high boost, all sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The engine bay is a work of art in itself, featuring twin GT28 turbochargers, Wolf ECU management, large front-mounted intercooler, custom plenum chamber, performance air filters, silicone coolant hoses, bespoke engine-bay tanks, uprated radiator with twin electric fans and a modified stainless-steel exhaust system.
Chassis and braking upgrades are equally extensive. The car benefits from AVO coilover suspension front and rear, polyurethane bushes throughout and an E-Tech front strut brace, while braking is handled by Hi-Spec six-piston front calipers with 355mm discs and four-piston rear calipers with 335mm discs, together with braided brake lines.
Externally, the Sierra presents in immaculate condition throughout, finished in its striking metallic blue with RS500-style bodywork, additional aero enhancements and smoked rear lights. The stance is completed by 18-inch split-style alloy wheels with polished rims, fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.
The odometer currently displays approximately 35,000 miles, although the car has covered approximately 135,000 miles in total over its lifetime.
Its history is another major part of the appeal. The car was owned by the late Fitzy, the man behind Top Boss Performance, and is accompanied by a fascinating history file including previous MOTs, insurance and parts documentation, rolling-road printouts, specification paperwork and period magazine features. Copies of Max Power and Performance Ford featuring the car are also present, adding another layer to what is already a very special piece of Ford history.
It drives exactly as you would expect from something producing over 500 bhp through the rear wheels: incredibly fast, raw, mechanical and full of character. There really is nothing else quite like it.
