Description
A genuine much-loved 1968 Triumph Herald Convertible that has been in my ownership for the last 38 years. Purchased in 1988 as my first car, the Herald has had just three (family) owners from new and comes with extensive history and a well-documented mileage record dating back to 1979. This is a full metal car with matching numbers and a Heritage Certificate. Garaged since 1988.
Originally finished in Old English White, the car was red when purchased. In 1990 it was stripped back to bare metal and repainted in cellulose Jaguar Primrose Yellow. A further restoration and full respray in two-pack polyurethane paint was carried out in 2001 by Ely Service, Cambridge; at a cost of approximately 6k Sterling.
Since 2025 it has returned to regular use and is currently driven daily. It starts well, drives as it should and is ready to be enjoyed immediately.
Electronic ignition (Lumenition)
Cylinder head converted for unleaded fuel
Larger Triumph Vitesse fuel tank
Alternator

This is an honest and usable classic rather than a concours show car: great from 5 feet! The bodywork is solid, the paint presents well and the car is mechanically dependable. PAD971G is pretty and makes people smile and comment.
If kept I would:
Powder coat the wheels and fit more period-correct tyres
Tidy the interior and refit an original-diameter steering wheel
Fit Vitesse door cappings
Detail the engine bay
Improve some of the panel gaps, as is common with Heralds
The car benefits from a substantial MOT and mileage history:
29/11/1979 - 58,423 miles
14/11/1980 - 59,813 miles
24/11/1981 - 61,584 miles
17/11/1982 - 63,414 miles
08/10/1986 - 66,124 miles
27/03/1988 - approximately 68,000 miles
09/09/1996 - 73,323 miles
26/03/2012 - 75,735 miles
13/07/2017 - 75,992 miles
20/05/2021 - 75,992 miles
05/12/2025 - 76,245 miles
I am selling because I don't have a garage in Hampshire and this will make a great starter classic; use it and give her some TLC.
